Low Maintenance Perennials
June 21, 2009

Enjoy your gardens instead of being a slave to them by using low maintenance plants. Then you can spend more time relaxing and less time working!

FOR SUN: Lavender - Deer resistant, fragrant gray-blue foliage with profuse purple flower spikes. Most varieties grow up to 24" tall and wide.

Coreopsis 'Crème Brulee' - new improved version of 'Moonbeam.' Grows 10-12" tall with prolific soft yellow flowers.

Gaura - Long-blooming, butterfly-like flowers on wispy stems make this perennial perfect for the garden or even for cascading over a wall.

FOR SHADE: Variegated Solomon's Seal - A very underused plant that has beautiful variegated foliage with small, fragrant white flowers.

Coral Bells - Many colorful varieties of Coral Bells (Heuchera) can certainly brighten up a shady spot. Colors range from deep purple to lime green and even peach. Just plant, water, and let the color take over!

Hosta - No shade garden is complete without a hosta. There are so many varieties to choose from, you are certain to find one that suits your taste. They are simple to grow and hummingbirds are attracted to their fragrant flowers.

The above mentioned are only a sampling of many low-care perennials, so be sure to ask about others on your next visit to Waterloo Gardens!
