Fall Clean Up and Pruning
October 15, 2009

Sometime in the next few weeks before it gets too cold, we all will be doing a thorough yard cleanup. While you are out working in your gardens and landscape beds be sure to get your plants prepared for next spring by fertilizing, pruning (when appropriate), and adding extra mulch if needed. Granular fertilizers such as Holly-tone and Plant-tone are ideal as they provide a long slow feed without the risk of over-fertilizing. Prune only your summer blooming plants which produce flowers on new growth. Leave plants like azalea, rhododendron, and pieris alone right now as they have already set bud for next spring. Hydrangeas can be tricky as well so give us a call if you are not sure just what to do.

Also, do not forget to feed your lawn this fall and add some pelletized lime while you are at it for great results next spring. We have all the garden supplies you need for lawn care, including a selection of organic products safe for kids and pets.
